CM Dhami takes on Harish Rawat on ‘Igaas’ holiday issue

CM directs the authorities to start construction of Pithoragarh medical college

Giving a new turn to the ongoing war of words on the declaration of public holiday on Igaas, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that while he has declared holiday on local festival Igaas, former CM Harish Rawat had declared holiday on Friday. Addressing a public meeting in Pithoragarh on Saturday, Dhami launched a frontal attack on Harish Rawat for raising questions on his government’s declaration of holiday on Igaas.  He said that he had declared a holiday on Igaas so that people can celebrate the festival held on the 11th day of Deepawali in the mountainous areas. The CM said that Rawat objected to it and said that there is no benefit for the people as Igaas is on Sunday on which we declared that the holiday would be on Monday (November 15). Dhami added that it was Rawat who during his stint as CM had declared holiday on Friday so that people can offer Namaz.

During his stay in Pithoragarh the CM took a review of the development works and schemes with the district level officers at Vikas Bhawan. In the meeting he took strong objection to the fact that despite the government releasing the money the construction of Pithoragarh medical college has not not started as yet.  He said that the work on the medical college should start without any more delay. He also directed the work executing agency to complete the construction work of building of the base hospital within one month. On a terse note Dhami also directed that all necessary facilities should be revamped within the next ten days in the district hospital and female hospital. On a humanitarian note, the CM directed that all the contractual workers engaged in the health department during the time of Covid-19 pandemic who are now removed should be taken back in service.

The CM also reviewed the relief and rehabilitation works of the recent rain triggered disaster and directed the district magistrate to provide every possible help to affected people. He said that the air service from the Naini Saini airstrip should start by the state plane.

The DM of Pithoragarh presented a detailed account of the status of the roads, Jal Jiwan Mission, Covid vaccination and progress on the CM’s announcements.

The CM also attended a Janta Milan programme where he listened to the grievances of the people. The drinking water minister Bishan Singh Chufal, Pithoragarh MLA Chandra Pant, Gangolihat MLA Meena Gangola, Chairman Nagar Palika Rajendra Rawat, Kumaon Commissioner Sushil Kumar, Inspector General (IG) Kumaon Nilesh Anand Bharne, DM Ashish Chauhan, SP Lokeshwar Singh and others were present on the occasion.

The CM also attended a programme organised at the Vardayani temple located at Chandak Road of Pithoragarh on the day and offered prayers there. He also unfurled the national flag mounted on a 100 feet long pole on the occasion.
