Sports Policy-2021 to promote sports, players- CM
Says an international standard sports university would be set up in the state
The chief minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the state government has implemented the Sports Policy- 2021 to promote sports and sportspersons in the state. He said that the new policy aims to find and shape the sporting talent, increase the interest of people for sports, sports planning, arrangement of extra nutritious food and creating new employment opportunities for sportsmen. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the national level table tennis competition at the parade ground here on Tuesday. The competition would be organised from December 7 to 14.
Comparing sports with the rainbow which emerges from among the dark clouds, Dhami said that sports teaches us discipline, perseverance, commitment and the ability to correct oneself. He said that by taking part in sports one can remain more active and healthy. Dhami said that the Indian sportspersons performed well in the recently held Olympics and Paralympics and now sports has become a point of discussion in every household and this discussion should not stop.
He opined that the national sporting events not only provide a platform for the players to show their talent but also help in cultural exchange. The CM said that the new sports policy of Uttarakhand would help in giving recognition to the state in the field of sports and exuded confidence that the players from the state would perform exceptionally well in the national and international events.
The CM said that the state government is committed to setting up a sports university in Uttarakhand and the efforts are being made to make Sports College Raipur as a university of international standards. He announced that a state level Khelo India centre and a sports science centre would be opened in Dehradun. The CM informed that the state government has started the process to set up open Gyms in every village panchayat.
He said that the state government has made Hockey star Vandana Kataria as the brand ambassador of the ‘ Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.
The sports and education minister Arvind Pandey said that the state government is doing every possible effort to promote sports in Uttarakhand. He said that every facility is provided to the players under the new sports policy.
The Rudraprayag MLA Bharat Chaudhary, sports director G S Rawat, the president of Uttarakhand Table Tennis association Chetan Gurung, secretary Prince Vipon and others were present on the occasion.
