The State’s Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar conducted a virtual meeting with senior officials of the police department to discuss safety and traffic arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra season on Friday. Kumar appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and Traffic director Mukhtar Mohsin a s the nodal officer of traffic management to ensure smooth operation of the traffic on the routes of Yatra. It was decided in the meeting that special training will be given to the tourism police personnel in soft skills and communication skills so that they are able to provide security and ease to the passengers properly.
Home Guard and PRD personnel will also be posted on the said routes after being given a special training. Considering the convenience of the passengers and pilgrims, the date of opening of the portals of all the Char Dham shrines, the status of the routes and the real-time status of congestion will be shared on the website of Uttarakhand Police and on all of its social media platforms. Kumar said that traffic management on Char Dham routes must be the top priority of the officials and they must seek assistance of the respective district magistrates (DMs) to identify new parking places and make arrangements as per their capacity to accommodate the vehicles. He also directed the officials concerned to remove the encroachments on the routes taking necessary action against it as per the rules. He has also directed the officials to mark bottlenecks on Char Dham Yatra route. He asked them to install warning sign boards across these routes as much as possible to raise awareness among people in coordination with the transport department and Public Works Department. Action will be taken against those who are found to be indulging in overloading, over speeding, rash driving, drunk driving and other kinds of criminal activities. The department will also deploy additional teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at Mori, Ghansali and Gairsain routes too, said Kumar.
Additional Director General of Police (Police Communications) Amit Sinha, Additional Director General of Police (Crime, Law and Order) V Murugesan, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence and Security) AP Anshuman, Inspector General of Police (Fire) Ajay Rautela and officials concerned from seven districts-Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi were also present in the meeting.
