Army jawans clear snow off path to reach Hemkund

Monday, 25 April 2022 | PNS | Joshimath

The jawans of the Indian army and workers of the Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust reached the Hemkund Gurudwara on Sunday after clearing snow off the path to the shrine at an altitude of 15,200 feet. This team had departed from Govindghat on April 14 to clear the path to the Gurudwara of the snow which is still covering the terrain in this high altitude region.

The army jawans have been able to clear snow off the bridle path to the Gurudwara before the intended time. According to sources, after a few more days, they will work to make the path more accessible for others. After the path to Hemkund is properly opened, the personnel from the electricity and drinking water departments will start undertaking their respective tasks in this high altitude location.

The management trust vice chairman Narendrajit Singh Bindra informed that the portals of the Hemkund Gurudwara will be opened to the public on May 22 this year. The first batch of pilgrims to the Gurudwara will depart on May 19 from Rishikesh.

It is pertinent to mention here that like the Char Dham Yatra, the pilgrimage to Hemkund was also stalled during the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Just like the Char Dham Yatra, it is expected that a record-breaking number of people will visit this Gurudwara this year.Attachments area
