A number of patients visiting the Haridwar district hospital are suffering due to the absence of the general surgeon and orthopaedic surgeon here. The general surgeon is on leave while the orthopaedic surgeon has been deputed to the Char Dham Yatra duty. The orthopaedic surgeon Dr Shivam Pathak has been deputed for 15 days to the Char Dham Yatra duty.
Apart from the orthopaedic surgeon sent on Char Dham Yatra duty and the general surgeon who has been on leave for about two months now, there is no neurologist and dermatologist in the district hospital. A cardiologist was available till February as per contract, but he also left the job after the expiry of the contract. As of now no cardiologist is available for the patients in the Haridwar district hospital.
A considerable number of patients come here with injuries suffered in road accidents and violent altercations. The role of orthopaedic surgeon and neurologist is vital in such cases but these specialists are not available in the district hospital. Due to this, most of the patients are referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh and the Himalayan Hospital at Jolly Grant.
The hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Chandan Mishra said that as per the order of the government, only one doctor for every specialisation is available in the district hospital, so only one orthopaedic specialist is available in the district hospital. The general surgeon has been on leave for the last two months without any reason. The hospital management has informed the senior authorities. It is expected that soon a surgeon will be sent by the government to the district hospital.
