Four feared dead after car falls into Ganga at Kaudiyala

Meerut residents were returning from Kedarnath when mishap occurred
Four persons are feared dead after the car they were returning from Kedarnath fell off the road and into the Ganga river at Kaudiyala near Rishikesh on Wednesday morning. The police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel reached the accident site where efforts continued till the evening to search for the car and the victims.
On Wednesday morning, SDRF received information from the Byasi police post that a vehicle had fallen into the river near Kaudiyala. On information, the rescue team from SDRF post at Byasi left for the spot. After reaching the spot, the SDRF personnel reached down to the river bank in search of the victims and the car. They found the number plate of the car, a carry bag, mobile phone and a part of the car on the river bank considering which it was estimated that the car had fallen into the river. A deep diving team from the Dhalwala post was also called to the spot as the water level of the river increased and the current was swift. The search operation was carried out by both the teams. The police found an identity card in the name of Pankaj Sharma. On contacting his relatives it was ascertained that on July 10, Pankaj Sharma (50), Gulveer Jain (40), Nitin (25) and Harsh Gujjar (19)- all residents of Meerut had gone in an Alto car to Kedarnath. They were returning from the temple on Wednesday when the mishap occurred. The families of the four persons have been informed about the accident.
According to the Narendranagar police, the police and SDRF had searched for the car and its occupants from morning but had not succeeded till the evening. A tea vendor present near the spot had said that at about 6 AM he had heard a loud noise of something falling but could not see the car fall.
