AHTU busts prostitution racket in spa centres, detains 13 women

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Dehradun police on Monday conducted raids at multiple spa centres in the Patelnagar area and detained 13 women for their alleged involvement in prostitution. The officials of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) were also present during these raids, said the head of the commission Kusum Kandwal.

She said that the raid was conducted in these spa centres in association with AHTU after the commission received information from its sources that sex rackets are being run in various spa centres located in the Patelnagar area. She said that she informed the authorities concerned and accompanied them in the raids along with her team. Kandwal informed that 13 young women were detained by the police from three spa centres .

The women belong to different places- one each from Sikkim, Siliguri, Almora, Haridwar, Dehradun, two from Tehri and one from Nepal. She said that authorities also suspect two girls to be minors.  According to her, the authorities did not find any training certificate in spa or physiotherapy required to work in spa centres. The police are interrogating these women about how they got involved in prostitution and who brought them here, said Kandwal. She informed that the police have seized all documents from these centres and are yet to nab the owners. One person is allegedly the owner of two spa centres and police are working to nab the culprits, added Kandwal.
