Aim to maximise grounding of investment proposals by February 15: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with senior officials to review the grounding of the memoranda of understanding signed during the recent Global Investors Summit. Stating that the grounding of the MoUs is a collective responsibility, he directed the officials to aim for facilitating the grounding of as many proposals as possible by February 15. The chief secretary will review the grounding every week while the CM will conduct a review once a month. Dhami told the officials that the focus should be on balancing ecology and economy while generating as as many job opportunities to the youth as possible. He also directed the officials to prepare data on the employment opportunities to be created by industries to be set up in the state along with the investment proposed in various sectors. Attempts should also be made to benefit women self help groups through the industries to be set through the investment in the state. Further, focus should also be laid on facilitating self employment to the youth under the tourism and solar power policies, he said.
Officials informed in the meeting that a total of 1,779 MoUs worth Rs 3,56,000 crore were signed in the investors summit. These include 157 MoUs worth Rs 1,03,000 crore in the energy sector, 658 MoUs worth Rs 78,000 crore related to the Industry department, 437 MoUs worth Rs 47,646 crore in the tourism sector, 175 MoUs worth Rs 19,260 crore in the horticulture and food processing sector and 77 agreements worth Rs 17,058 crore in the AYUSH and wellness sector. They further informed that the Uttarakhand Society for Promotion of Investment, Startups and Entrepreneurship is being formed for the convenience of investors in the state.
The CM directed the officials to also implement the directions given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the investors summit. “The efforts made by all of us for the Global Investors Summit have been widely appreciated. It is now our collective responsibility to convert the agreements into ground reality in the interests of the state. The proposals important in the interests of the state should be accorded priority,” the CM stressed.
He also directed the officials to ascertain what better can be done for the development of the mountainous regions with the investment proposals received while also focusing on maximising employment generation. The CM said that in pursuance of the directions of PM Modi, work should be expedited on expansion of the Dehradun and Pantnagar airports and construction of a convention centre in Rishikesh or some other suitable location. He said that there has been considerable improvement in the condition of Dehradun and that this improvement should continue in the future. It is a collective responsibility to ensure that the work for development of the city continues without a break, he added. The CM further stressee that an effective work plan should be prepared to mitigate the human-wildlife conflict in the state.
Additional chief secretaries Radha Raturi, Anand Bardhan, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, secretaries R Meenakshi Sundaram, Shailesh Bagauli, principal chief conservator of forests Anup Malik and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
