Anganwadi workers to protest against alleged Govt apathy

The members of Anganwadi Workers Association have decided to stage a protest by marching to the chief minister’s residence alleging that the State government has been neglecting their pending demands for about two years. According to the president of the association Rekha Negi, the government continues to neglect the Anganwadi workers despite making several promises about considering their demands and taking action to fulfil them.

“The Dehradun mayor had promised us as a government representative that our demands will be considered by the government. We were even promised that a committee will be formed so that we can present our issues there but nothing has been done yet. We were not even given the allowances for the time period when we protested against the government last year,” stated Negi. She said that the Anganwadi workers who mainly include single mothers, abandoned women, divorced women and widows work at the ground level for all welfare schemes in remote and rural areas besides several other works but they are still underpaid. “How are these workers going to take care of their families. This government has given us nothing but false assurances. All the Anganwadi workers will stage a protest against the government and will march towards the CM residence on Tuesday. If the government does not consider our matter, we will be forced to intensify our protest against the government,” stated Negi.
