Arya questions govt for failure to start Rudrapur & Pithoragarh medical colleges

The leader of the opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya has accused the State government of gross negligence for its failure to start the Rudrapur and Pithoragarh government medical colleges.
He said that due to the negligence of the government, the poor and meritorious students of the State are deprived of the chance to be doctors. Arya said that some of these students are forced to seek admission in private medical colleges which are very expensive.
He demanded that the government should find some way to ensure that the admissions in these two medical colleges are made in the 2026-27 academic year.
Arya said that if the Rudrapur and Pithoragarh medical colleges had started their academic sessions this year, the dream of 200 young people from the state to become doctors at a government medical college for a nominal fee would have been fulfilled. Questioning the government’s functioning, he asked, “Why hasn’t the chief minister who regularly boasts about the double engine government been able to establish the necessary coordination with the Government of India and the NMC to start the academic session this year?”
He said that both CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and health minister Subodh Uniyal had made claims of starting these medical colleges from this year. However the government failed in this endeavour.
Arya said that apart from these two medical colleges, the State government should try to increase 25 more seats in the government medical college Haldwani. This will help in fulfilling the dream of meritorious youth of Uttarakhand to become doctors and serve the State, he said.
