Centre & State govt destroying PSUs: Harish Rawat

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Congress veteran and former chief minister Harish Rawat tore into the Centre and the State government, accusing them of throwing the public sector units based in Uttarakhand on the brink of complete extinction. Citing the closure of the once thriving PSUs like IDPL and HMT, he said that threat has been looming over BHEL. “The centre is not sending orders to BHEL and the number of employees there is dipping with time. The chief minister is asking the land where the BHEL is housed from the Centre, signalling the deepening of the crisis facing this major PSU,” he said while addressing a press conference at the Press Club in Haridwar. Taking a dig at the State government, he said that despite the hubbub raised on the Global Investors Summit, nothing concrete had hit the ground so far. He said that the plight of the workers working in the industrial units goes from bad to worse. “Over 700 such units have been locked out and more lockouts are in the offing. The workers are being removed without prior notice,” he said and added that the Congress would continue fighting for the workers. Hitting out at the Centre, Rawat said that the interim budget presented a few days ago held no relief for the workers struggling for bare existence.
