Clearing online quiz must for drivers in Char Dham Yatra

In order to ensure a safe and sound travel of the pilgrims, the transport department of Uttarakhand has issued orders to the authorities to take action against those commercial vehicle operators who finish the whole Char Dham Yatra in less than the stipulated days. Besides this, the drivers will have to pass an online quiz to get a hill endorsement for Char Dham Yatra this year.
The transport department held a Char Dham Yatra review meeting on Monday to discuss and review the preparations ahead of the Yatra which is scheduled to commence in May.
As per the officials, the stipulated time to complete the whole Char Dham Yatra is 10 days. The stipulated time to complete Teen Dham, Do Dham and Ek Dham are seven, five and three days respectively.
In the meeting, the officials ordered the officials concerned to mark the time of departure and arrival of the vehicles for Char Dham Yatra on the marked checkposts and take action against those commercial vehicles who finish the whole journey in less time than the stipulated days. This year, the department has also made hill endorsement available for the transport operators online. According to the officials, a 30-minute documentary film has been made based on which, the interested drivers will have to answer an online quiz. If the driver secures 60 per cent marks in the quiz, he will be declared pass and get the hill endorsement, as per the officials. The officials have also asked for a budget of about Rs 18.67 lakh from the Garhwal commissioner to make suitable arrangements at checkposts, offices, help centres and waiting rooms among others for Char Dham Yatra. Meanwhile, the transport secretary Ranjit Sinha has also issued orders to the transport commissioner to ensure the installation of the global positioning system (GPS) in all public transport vehicles and goods carrying vehicles by April 20, 2022 as per the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
