The chairperson of the State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Geeta Khanna emphasised the importance of individuals submitting complaints through the online platform provided by the commission in order to expedite the resolution of the issues raised. She said this following a recent incident involving the harassment of a young woman, who took the initiative to personally contact the SCPCR through their whatsapp number to report the incident.
Khanna further highlighted that the commission had publicised the WhatsApp number through various media channels since last year, enabling individuals, schools, parents and anyone experiencing incidents of misconduct to promptly reach out to the SCPCR by directly lodging their complaints. Khanna added that this initiative was particularly beneficial for residents of mountainous regions who previously had to endure lengthy journeys of four to five hours solely to file a complaint with the commission.
She further noted that the commission has introduced a dedicated number for residents of mountainous regions who previously had to travel for four to five hours just to register a complaint. She said that over 40 complaints have already been received through the online WhatsApp number of the SCPCR. Referring to a recent incident, she informed that a young woman from Chakrata had reported through the SCPCR whatsapp number about a young man who was harassing her when she went out. Khanna stated that she promptly reached out to the woman and requested a detailed email about the situation. Following this, the commission took immediate action by contacting the Sub-Division Magistrate (SDM). She highlighted this incident as an example of the positive impact of introducing the whatsapp number, as it led to swift resolution of complaints and prevention of future escalation.
Khanna emphasised the importance of filing complaints with the SCPCR at numbers 9149136927 and 9258127046. Registering complaints online will enable the SCPCR to promptly resolve the issue.
