Saturday, 09 April 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Congress leaders here said that despite the claims of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) regarding working on improving the sanitation facilities, the number of heaps of garbage continues to grow across the city. Many Congress leaders including ex MLA Rajkumar, Mahanagar Congress president Lal Chand Sharma and some councillors including Bijender Pal and Komal Vohra protested in the MCD premises on Friday. They also met the municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela and presented a memorandum to him. Sharma said that door to door service for garbage collection is not regular in several wards and the garbage bins have also been removed from several locations like GMS Road of Cantt assembly constituency and Rajendra Nagar in Kishan Nagar ward. This has also led to the accumulation of garbage on roadside areas which is increasing every day. “The sanitation facilities are not being provided properly and several streets are severely damaged in many wards but nothing is being done by MCD.  If the corporation does not improve these conditions, the Congress will have to intensify its protest against the corporation,” said Rajkumar. Moreover, the Congress leaders also demanded action against the irregularities found in the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada. They also demanded that the commissioner should take action against the irregularities in the garbage transfer station at Kargi Chowk and shift it to some isolated place too.
