With an eye on the upcoming Assembly bypoll in Kedarnath Assembly and the elections of urban local bodies (ULB), the central leadership of Congress party has constituted a coordination committee of senior leaders in Uttarakhand. This committee will take all the decisions and devise strategy of the party in the State. The in- charge of Uttarakhand Congress Kumari Selja had convened a meeting of top leaders of Uttarakhand Congress on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in State Assembly Yashpal Arya, former chief minister Harish Rawat, the deputy leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Bhuwan Kapdi, former PCC presidents Pritam Singh, and Ganesh Godiyal, former speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal and former cabinet ministers Harak Singh Rawat, Navprabhat and Surendra Singh Negi attended the meeting. The candidates of the party in the recent Lok Sabha elections were also invited in the meeting.
In the meeting, discussions on the party strategy for the upcoming Kedarnath Assembly by-elections and the ULB elections were held. It is learnt that Selja conveyed the message of party leadership that all the senior leaders of the State Congress should be on one page on all the issues. The party leadership also warned the leaders on engaging in factionalism. One senior leader of the party who attended the meeting confirmed that a coordination committee of senior leaders has been constituted. The PCC president Mahara, LoP Arya, former CM Harish Rawat, former PCC presidents Godiyal and Pritam Singh, former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat, former MP Pradeep Tamta and Prakash Joshi will be in the coordination committee. This committee will hold regular meetings and will take decisions on all important issues. The party insiders are of the view that, perplexed by consistent infighting and poor performance of the party in the LS elections, the central leadership has moved ahead on the system of collective leadership in Uttarakhand.
