CS Sandhu pitches for comprehensive plan to prevent road accidents
Asks officers to conduct regular inspections of the commercial vehicles and school buses

The chief secretary of Uttarakhand Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has directed the officers of the departments concerned to prepare a comprehensive and concrete working plan to prevent accidents in the state. He was conducting a meeting of different departments at the state secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting was held for implementation of the recommendations made by the Supreme Court (SC) constituted committee on road safety in the state. In the meeting he directed that the recommendations of the committee should be implemented without delay. Directing the officers to work in coordination, the CS said that in case of accidents the transport, police, Public Works Department (PWD) and health departments should reduce their response time. He said that the departments concerned should complete the proposed works in a time bound manner and ensure that their quality is maintained. The CS further directed that crash barriers should be placed along the accident prone areas and signages in sufficient numbers should be placed. Sandhu said that the ambulances as per the guideline of IRC should be deployed at proper places on the national highways and state highways. He said that appointments of regular members and ministerial staff should be made in the lead agency of the committee in different departments. On a terse note the CS said that regular inspections of the commercial vehicles and school buses should be done so that any untoward incident is prevented. He also ordered the different departments to provide the required information to the lead agency from time to time.
The secretaries A S Hyanki, Ravinath Raman, Transport commissioner Ranvir Singh Chauhan and officers concerned of other departments were also among those present in the meeting.
