Accusing the State administration of undue harassment and acting in a partisan manner, the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that male constables knocked at her door at 1 am to serve a notice. Dasauni said that the notice was sent by the Station Officer of the Basant Vihar police station and was related to the protest of the Women Congress. She told The Pioneer that she objected to the late night arrival of police personnel without any female constables. “I made phone calls to SO Basant Vihar and SP city but the calls went unanswered. Then I called the SSP Dehradun who heard my plea and assured me that the notice will be served in the morning. Later the notice was served at 6 am in the morning,’’ she said.
Dasauni said that the notice warned her of legal action since no prior permission for the effigy burning programme was taken. She said that the protest was organised by Mahanagar Mahila Congress and claimed that no permission for such protests is usually taken from the administration.
