Dehradun DM visits rain-affected areas in Raipur

The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika visited the affected areas of Maldevta, Serki Village and other areas of Raipur block on Thursday morning after the heavy rainfall that occurred on Wednesday night causing severe damage. She assessed the damage caused by the rain and interacted with the local residents. During her visit, Sonika inspected the upper areas of the villages where the heavy flow of rainwater had carried debris, damaging roads and a hume pipe line. She instructed the respective sub-divisional magistrate and the Tehsildar to assess the damage and take necessary action. She also directed the Irrigation department and other officials concerned to ensure the removal of debris from the roads and proper drainage of water. Emphasising the importance of preventing further damage in residential areas, she asked officials to take preventive measures. Considering that the area might experience heavy rainfall again, the DM directed the tehsildar to maintain constant monitoring of the area and deploy necessary personnel there. Sonika also observed that rainwater had entered inside the houses of people in Serki village causing serious damage. The local women requested the DM to make arrangements for proper drainage during heavy rainfall. In response, she instructed the Irrigation department to work on water drainage in the affected areas and ordered the immediate removal of debris to protect residential areas. She also observed soil erosion and debris in a village that had affected roads and agricultural fields too. She directed the officials present to restore easy access to the area and use machines to quickly restore natural water channels. All officials concerned must stay alert to tackle any kind of emergency situation during monsoon besides taking possible preventive measures, she added.
