Taking cognisance of forest fires in the state, the director general of police Ashok Kumar has appealed to the public to act as first responders in tackling forest fires and inform the police about anyone lighting up such fires intentionally. The DGP said, “About 278 forest fire incidents have taken place in March alone and most of these were set up by mischievous elements.
Forests are vital component of the environmental wealth and forest fires cause major damage to the wildlife and environment. Those living in nearby areas should act as first responders to tackle forest fires. The locals should also inform the police about those who intentionally set up fires which is a punishable offence under IPC sections 435 and 436.”
