Election Commission of India (ECI) SVEEP director Santosh Ajmera and joint director Anuj Chandak addressed a state level SVEEP consultation workshop here on Friday.
Ajmera reviewed the status of measures for making the coming Vidhan Sabha elections in the state accessible, voter awareness, education and involvement. The chief electoral officer Sowjanya directed the chief development officers of Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar to expedite registration of new voters, registration of differently abled voters and raising awareness on voting from home. ECI officials also issued clear instructions to officers of other departments related to the election process.
They directed that the industry department should motivate industrial workers to vote. They also stressed on the importance of the outreach bureau facilitating the use of street plays and cultural troupes in rural and remote areas. Sowjanya said that all the officials involved in the election process should document each activity and programme, new initiatives and challenges faced. The ECI officials also conducted a physical inspection of Dehradun district after the workshop. The team will inspect low percentage polling booths in Tehri district on Saturday.
