Dismal response to employment centric HOPE portal
Fifty percent applicants now no more interested. Number of new applicants also down
Out of over 5000 applicants in Dehradun district who applied for employment opportunities through Helping Out People Everywhere (HOPE) portal, the district administration could not make contact with more than 50 percent applicants. Moreover, the number of applications has also declined in the last few months as the officials informed that the portal was mainly launched for migrants and locals who lost their jobs due to Covid-19 pandemic but since many must have returned back to their jobs, the applications declined too.
According to the district nodal officer of HOPE, Ajay Singh, the administration was getting about 1000 applications in two to three months through the portal but in the last few months, only about 200 to 300 applicants applied for employment opportunities. From over 5,000 registered applicants in the portal, the employment office has forwarded about 2,451 applications to the department concerned while no contact could be made with around 2,620 applicants. The officials informed that the administration tries to provide mostly self-employment opportunities to the applicants but many applicants ask for government posts in departments which is not possible. They further informed that the maximum number of applicants applied for employment opportunities in the industries department while only a handful of applicants applied for employment opportunities in Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA). “We have forwarded about 1,409 applications to the industries department so far, while only two applications were sent to UREDA till last month,” informed Singh. Further, the officials also pointed out that about 75 percent applicants are men of over 35 years of age while the remaining 25 percent are women of the same age group. Moreover, the departments which are most popular among the applicants for employment opportunities include the industries department, dairy development department, tourist department, agriculture department and the horticulture department.
