DM forms committee to monitor drug rehab centres in Dehradun

In view of various irregularities discovered recently in different drug rehabilitation centres of the district, the Dehradun district magistrate R Rajesh Kumar has formed a committee to monitor all such centres.
The DM said that the administration has received several complaints in the past few weeks about the irregularities in the management of various drug rehabilitation centres considering which, a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of chief development officer, Nitika Khandelwal. He informed that he has nominated superintendent of police (crime), chief medical officer and city magistrate as the members of the committee and the district social welfare officer has been nominated as member secretary.
Kumar said that the committee will verify and monitor things like whether the drug rehabilitation centres have legal permission to operate, how the management of the centre is managing the condition of inmates or whether the management is actually qualified and have proper resources to treat the inmates. He said that the committee will also monitor whether the drug rehabilitation centres are providing regular health checkups to inmates to avoid serious health issues during the treatment.
According to Kumar, the administration will cancel the registration of such drug rehabilitation centres which will be found flouting any rules in the district. He said that the newly formed committee will conduct regular inspections across the district and legal action will be taken against those violating the rules. Besides this, the DM has also directed the committee members to make guidelines for the proper operation of drug rehabilitation centres and present a proposal for the same soon.
