DM holds all-party meet on electoral rolls

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Uttarkashi district magistrate who is also the district election officer Abhishek Ruhela said while addressing an all-party meeting that after disposal of the claims and objections received during the revision of the electoral rolls as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, 7090 voters had been added in the district while 6078 voters had been removed. Besides, names of 2669 young voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years had also been included in the electoral rolls, he added. Notably, the final electoral rolls with photographs involving all  the three assembly constituencies of Uttarkashi district was published after a special revision on the basis of the qualifying date of January 1, 2024.  As per this list, there are 2,41,201 voters in the district- 1,23,554 males, 1,17, 645 females and two belonging to third gender category.

Ruhela further said that like the rest of the country, National Voters’ Day would be celebrated on January 25 and programmes would be held meant to make the voters aware of the importance of voting rights in a vibrant participatory democracy like India’s. “On this day, all the booth level officers will be present at their respective booths with the electoral rolls and the citizens whose names have not been registered, would be given the opportunity to register their names through Form 6. Mock polls would be held at the booths on January 24 in which authorised representatives of political parties would participate,” he added.
