In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Nainital district magistrate Vandana Singh presided over a review meeting with the Road Safety Committee.
In the meeting, the executive engineer, PWD Ratnesh Saxena said that till August this year, a total of 106 accidents had taken place in the district in which 85 people had died and 75 had been injured.
The DM ascribed these road accidents mainly to overloading, rash driving, drunk driving and use of mobile by those sitting behind the wheels. She directed the transport department and police department to take strict action against those found on the wrong side of the traffic rules.
She asked the transport department and SDM to make a list of those roads on which the department has currently completed the work and instructed sign boards be installed in accident prone and no- parking areas.
