Heat wave conditions prevailed in Dehradun with the maximum temperature nearing 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The weather is expected to remain similar on Wednesday with the maximum temperature forecast to rise further by a notch today. The situation is expected to be better in mountainous areas with light rain and thunderstorms likely in some parts today. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Wednesday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State. Further, surface wind is likely to be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) in the plains of the State. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts. Heat wave conditions are likely to occur at a few places in the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky. Heat wave conditions are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 43 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 41.8 degrees Celsius and 23.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41.4 degrees Celsius and 22.6 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 29.5 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 31.5 degrees Celsius and 19.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
