Saturday, 19 AUGUST 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

As part of the nationwide call, the members of the Uttarakhand chapter of the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) would ring bells outside the residences of the members of parliament in the coming week. The call is given by the NMOPS to exert pressure on the government on the issues of restoration of the OPS.

The president of Uttarakhand chapter of NMOPS, Jeetmani Painyuli said in the meeting of the national executive in New Delhi on March 6 it was decided to hold ‘ Ghanti Bajao programme’ outside the residences of the MPs. He said that the employees would hold a Ghanti Bajao protest outside the residence of the Tehri MP, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah on August 19 in New Tehri. Similarly the protest will be held at the Dehradun residence of Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank on Sunday August 20 and outside the house of Garhwal MP Tirath Singh Rawat in Satpuli on August 27.  Protests will be held outside residences of Rajya Sabha MPs as well.

He said that all the district units of the NMOPS have been asked to prepare a strategy to organise the protest outside the houses of MPs.  Painyuli said that a mega rally is planned on October 1, 2023 in New Delhi in which employees from all parts of the country would participate. He said that October 1 holds significance for the employees since on this date in the year 2005, the OPS was abolished and New Pension Scheme (NPS) was started for the employees.

There are more than 80,000 employees, teachers and officers of State government which are currently under the NPS in the State which was started in the year 2005 to reduce the increasing burden of pension on the state exchequer.  The employees are finding the NPS non lucrative and are demanding the restoration of OPS.
