Heads have started rolling in the aftermath of the shock defeat of the high-profile Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha poll in Himachal Pradesh due to cross-voting by a number of party and independent MLAs. Shimla police have booked an independent MLA (now disqualified) and the father of a now-qualified independent MLA in connection with the alleged purchase of votes through huge momentary transactions. Interestingly, the father of the disqualified independent MLA from Gagret constituency Chatanya Sharma who was booked by police is the retired IAS officer and the former chief secretary of Uttarakhand Rakesh Sharma. Shimla police registered the case on the complaint lodged by two Congress MLAs. Rakesh Sharma was the chief secretary of Uttarakhand from 2013 to 2016.
