The Health section of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will submit a report to the municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar about officials involved in the scam in the registration of fake sanitation workers under Mohalla Swachhata Samiti on Saturday. The report includes the names of supervisors, sanitation workers and other officials concerned deployed during the time when the salaries were issued from the corporation in the name of 99 fake sanitation workers listed in the Swachhata Samiti. It also includes details of bank accounts to which the payments were issued in the past five years, as per the officials. The alleged scam in the Swachhata Samiti came to light about six months ago when several sanitation workers alleged several irregularities regarding information about sanitation workers listed under the Samiti. When the matter reached the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika, she directed the chief development officer Jharna Kamthan to investigate the matter and submit the report to her. The CDO submitted the report to the DM last month that stated that the team could not verify the details of 99 sanitation workers mentioned in the Mohalla Swachhata Samiti. However, a salary of Rs 15,000 was issued to each of them from 2019 till December 2023. Sonika ordered the commissioner to act against those involved in the scam and take appropriate action to recover the money issued in the past five years. The commissioner also stated that the corporation will start the process of recovering the salary that was issued in the name of the fake 99 sanitation workers once he gets the report. The MCD will possibly start issuing notices to guilty parties to recover the money and will take legal action if they fail to comply. The councillors of several wards of the city are also allegedly involved in the scam. However, the commissioner said that he will not comment on it before getting the report but added that appropriate action will be taken against guilty parties.
