Four arrested with wild venison

Taking advantage of the Covid curfew imposed in the state, some persons are indulging in wildlife crimes. A case was reported in Nagar village of Devprayag in Tehri district late on Monday evening where police arrested four persons and sent them to jail for alleged sale and purchase of wild venison.
Hindolakhal police received information that deer meat was being sold near Nagar village after which senior superintendent of police, Tripti Bhatt constituted a joint team of Devprayag and Hindolakhal police who arrested Ramesh and his son Jagdish from the spot while selling about 21 kilogrammes of deer meat in the forest.
Two others- Dinesh and Bhagwan of the same village were arrested for buying 5.5 kilogrammes of deer meat. After getting it confirmed as wild venison by a veterinarian, the police registered a case under the Wildlife (Protection) Act against the accused and arrested them. The accused were produced before the court on Tuesday from where they were sent to 14 days judicial custody.
