Four including two school children die in separate accidents in Tehri

Four persons including two school children died in two separate accidents in Tehri district on Saturday. In the Ghansali area of the district, two children returning home from the government inter college at Ghumetidhar died when a pine tree fell on them. Nel Gram Panchayat residents, class X student Arav Singh (16) and class XI student Mansi Singh (14) were returning home from school in the afternoon at about 1:30 PM. They were walking home when strong winds started to blow along with rain.

According to sources, a pine tree fell on the two children when they were about 200 metres from their village. By the time the locals reached the site, the two children crushed under the tree had breathed their last. Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force and the district disaster management team reached the site along with the police on being informed about the mishap. The bodies were handed over to the families after post mortem examination.

The second accident took place on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway at Bagwan in the Kirtinagar area. According to official sources, two Sikhs Manpreet Singh (28) and Gurdeep Singh (22) both from Patiala in Punjab were riding towards Rishikesh on a motorcycle. They were reportedly returning from Hemkund Sahib. About 400 metres from the licensed liquor shop at Bagwan, a truck being driven at speed on the wrong side collided head on with the motorcycle.

The two men were thrown under the truck and reportedly died on the spot. The Kirtinagar police personnel reached the site after being informed about the accident. The bodies were sent by ambulance to the mortuary of the base hospital in Srikot.
