Eminent historian and writer Babasaheb Purandare breathed his last on Monday morning. He was 99. According to the sources, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and was undergoing treatment at Deenanath Mangeshwar Hospital in Pune. His condition deteriorated on Sunday and had not shown any signs of improvement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to pay his tribute to the Padma Vibhushan Awardee. Many political leaders expressed their grief. Chief Minister Uddav Thackeray announced a state funeral for Purandare.
The historian-writer was known for his work on the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and other scholarly works.
