HOMELESS WON’T BE HOMELESS AFTER 2022: Chief Secretary

All the homeless citizens are to be provided homes by the year 2022 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The homes will be provided through provisions including a grant for affordable housing, subsidy, and beneficiary based housing. The Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh chaired a meeting of the State level approval and monitoring committee for this programme here on Thursday. He directed that work under this programme be expedited so that the target can be achieved by the year 2022. It was stated in the meeting that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is being implemented in the 92 local bodies in the state. The people who do not have a home will be provided a residence under this programme. According to the findings of survey work conducted in the state for this purpose, it has been ascertained that there is a demand for 104761 homes under this programme in the State. Officials informed that under the beneficiary based construction, new homes will be constructed in 30 square meter carpet area each. In this category 23, 458 individual residences are to be constructed. Of these, the construction of 2290 homes is currently underway. Under the partnership category for affordable housing, those who do not have land will be provided homes with the partnership of the private-public sector. Under the category of grant linked to loan for affordable housing, targets have been fixed for each bank. Further, eligible slum dwellers will also be provided the facility under the programme’s slum settlement redevelopment. In addition to this, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority are also facilitating the construction of low-cost housing.
