Ivory pieces seized from forester post, watcher nabbed from tiger reserve

Acting on information provided by one of the three men caught earlier with ivory, the Forest department seized two pieces of ivory from the forester post premises and the tool used to cut the ivory pieces. Based on information provided by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), three men were arrested on February 2 with pieces of ivory. Based on the statement of one of the accused- Dhirendra Kumar and following his remand being given to the department, he was taken to the Maidavan range in Kalagarh tiger reserve forest division on Saturday. In the presence of Ramnagar division sub divisional officer Poonam Kainthola investigating the case, WCCB inspector and other department staff, the tool used to cut the ivory was recovered from inside the forester post in Gojuda and pieces of ivory were recovered from the compound of the post based on information provided by the accused. Kumar was also made to identify another accused- Vinod Dhyani who is working as a watcher on daily wages in the Kalagarh tiger reserve. He was arrested by the team from Ramnagar forest division. According to officials, the accused Kumar has also worked as a fire watcher and monsoon watcher on daily wages in the Maidavan range in Kalagarh tiger reserve in the past.
