The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has once again expressed concern regarding the incidents of men concealing their religious identity to establish physical relations with women in the State. Kandwal directed the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar to take strict action against the people who are concealing their identity and scamming innocent people. She issued this direction after two cases of men concealing their religious identity and then establishing physical relations with women in addition to exploiting them were reported from different parts of the State within one month.
She issued the direction to the Dehradun SSP after taking cognisance of a matter in Dehradun wherein a young man pretended to be a Hindu man, befriended a young woman and allegedly sexually assaulted her in addition to intimidating her to pay money. The USCW chief further said that she took complete information about this matter from the SSP over the phone and instructed him to take strict action in the case. The SSP informed her that on the complaint of the victim, the police have registered a case and will arrest the accused soon.
Expressing concern over the instances of ‘love jihad’ increasing in Uttrakhand she said that the occurrence of such cases in Devbhoomi is a very sensitive and unfortunate matter. She said that such cases are coming to the fore at an alarming frequency in the State. She stressed that the accused will not be spared, adding that strict action as per the law will be taken against them. Along with this, she appealed to the young ladies of the State to remain alert and stay away from such entrapments.
