MCD launches intensive larvicide & fogging campaign to combat dengue spread

With September marking a vulnerable period for dengue transmission, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has launched a large-scale larvicide spraying and fogging campaign across all city wards. The campaign aims to prevent the spread of dengue with the corporation deploying 15 tankers to spray larvicide and carry out fogging in high-risk areas.
The chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna emphasised the significance of this effort, noting that weather patterns this month, alternating sunny and rainy days, create ideal breeding conditions for dengue mosquitoes. “This cycle of rain followed by sunshine provides a perfect environment for mosquito breeding, which is why MCD is paying extra attention to prevent the spread this month,” Khanna said. He said that a few dengue cases have been reported in Dehradun and to ensure the situation does not escalate, the MCD is leaving no stone unturned, conducting continuous larvicide spraying and fogging operations throughout September. He stated, “Vulnerable areas, particularly those prone to mosquito breeding, are being targeted to mitigate the risk of an outbreak.
This is part of our commitment to ensuring that dengue cases remain minimal in the city.” He said that the efforts will continue all month and urged locals to eliminate stagnant water and cooperate with municipal teams in preventing the spread of the disease.
