The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) has been selected for the presidential award under Swachchh Survekshan 2022 (SS22). The award will be given to MCH under the Ganga City category in which 15 municipal bodies were the participants from Uttarakhand and over 75 cities from across the country.

The officials informed that MCH was selected on the basis of the survey conducted between January and March this year by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under its Swachchh Bharat Mission-Urban. The officials of MCH are also considering this award to be a good sign to get a better ranking in SS22 as Haridwar slipped to 285th position in 2021 from 244th in 2020 making it among the worst performing cities in the survey.

The Haridwar mayor Anita Sharma also expressed her happiness on receiving the presidential award and said that the corporation has been working on every factor associated with cleanliness to improve the sanitation conditions across the city. She said that she is sure the city will attain a good position in SS22. Besides this, five other municipal bodies of Uttarakhand have also been selected to be felicitated under SS22. These bodies are the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), municipal bodies of Doiwala, Narendranagar, Ramnagar, and Landour cantonment. The representatives of these cities will be felicitated by the President of India Droupadi Murmu in an award ceremony to be organized by MoHUA on October 1.
