The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) will build affordable houses for economically weaker sections using shelter fund. This fund, to be financed by contributions from builders, will be utilised by the authority to construct affordable housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the underprivileged. Besides this, MDDA also committed Rs two crore to Doon University for the development of infrastructure to facilitate the MSc course in urban planning and management. The course, offered only in Ahmedabad so far, will now be available in Dehradun. These decisions were taken in MDDA’s 109th board meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. The meeting, held in the presence of MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, resulted in several significant decisions aimed at improving urban development. The board approved the construction of parking facilities at the Dehradun Tehsil campus and in Rishikesh. These new parking structures are expected to significantly alleviate parking issues. The board also sanctioned the revised budget for the ongoing residential project in Aamwala Tarla, with a total cost estimated at Rs 102 crore. The MDDA plans to secure a loan of Rs 50 crore from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) to fund this project. The board members also approved proposals to establish land banks in Vikasnagar, Dhakrani and Shahpur Kalyanpur.
