The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly, Yashpal Arya has said that the promise of the Congress party that it will provide a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has baffled the Narendra Modi government and has put it on the backfoot. He said the BJP’s propaganda machinery has now unleashed a barrage of lies over MSP. Arya said that the farmers have understood the mischief of the Union government.
“The Modi government is saying that it is not possible to provide legal guarantee of MSP in the budget whereas the truth is that according to CRISIL, there would be an additional burden of Rs 21,000 crore on the government in giving MSP to the farmers in 2022-23, which is only 0.4 per cent of the annual budget,’’ he said.
The LoP questioned why in a country where bank loans worth Rs 14 lakh crore have been waived off and corporate tax exemption of Rs 1.8 lakh crore has been given, is the government hesitating on this expenditure on farmers.
Arya said that with the guarantee of MSP, investment in the agricultural sector will increase and the demand will increase in rural India. The farmers will also gain confidence in growing different types of crops, which is a guarantee of the country’s prosperity.
