Thursday, 15 March 2018 | PNS | Dehradun- The State Congress president Pritam Singh said that party leaders and activists are now working at ground level in view of upcoming civic body elections in the State. “The selection of candidates would be done in consultation with the senior congress leaders. People are fed up with the BJP ruling both at the Centre and in the State as they have failed to meet promises dished out by them before the elections. We are sure that the people would bless us during the local body election,” he said. He further said that they would make the intra-party bickering in the ruling BJP the principal issue for the upcoming civic body elections. “The Ministers and the MLAs are indulging in sabre rattling and consequently the people are suffering with the development of the state being shoved to the backburner,” he said. He further said that the government had backed off its commitment to waive off farmers’ loan. “ The farmers are dying unable to withstand the loan repayment pressure. This with other issues would be taken up during the campaigning by the party,” he said. Singh alleged that after demonetization and GST, businessmen, transporters and small shopkeepers are facing huge financial loss and one of the transporters committed suicide at state BJP headquarters recently. “Youths are becoming unemployed and no steps are being taken to generate employment for them. Prices of essential commodities have risen multiple times. These are the issues which would be raised among the people during civic body election,” he said, adding that a suitable candidate to be chosen consensually among the party leaders would be fielded for the post of mayor in civic body election.
