Planned vaccination of 18+ elicits both hope & uncertainty

Those in the 18-45 years age group are slated to get vaccinated from the first week of May in the state. People above the age of 18 years can register themselves for getting vaccinated through the cowin.gov.in website and also through Aarogya Setu mobile App.

However, there are mixed reactions among the people in this age group regarding the vaccination. Some adults seem to be excited and well aware of the importance of getting vaccinated. Dehradun resident Akansha Badoni said, “I want to get myself vaccinated as soon as possible to develop immunity against covid especially because of the type of severe and deadly conditions we are witnessing in this second wave.”

Another adult Rohit Shukla said, “Vaccination is important to bring down the number of cases and we as citizens are responsible to get ourselves vaccinated. I don’t understand why people are afraid of Covid vaccine side effects like fever etc. which actually means that the vaccine is working. So I guess people with such doubts need awareness and more knowledge about its benefits.”

However, some people are still uncertain with some sceptical about the efficacy of the vaccines made in India. An assistant professor, Sudhanshu Jayaswal says he will wait to get access to foreign-manufactured vaccines with greater efficacy like Pfizer and Moderna. He said, “I and my 19-year-old daughter will wait for foreign vaccines to enter the market and then get vaccinated. Till then we will strictly follow the covid guidelines to ensure our safety.”

Kamini Negi a 25-year-old said she felt hesitation about getting vaccinated after rumors spread in her colony about one of her neighbor’s death after getting vaccinated. “I am waiting for my friends to get vaccinated and then if their experience is positive, I’ll be ready to get vaccinated,” she said.
