Continuing its efforts for establishing plastic banks in Dehradun, Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation has also established a plastic bank in the General Post Office (GPO) premises located at Clock Tower in the city. In this plastic bank, along with the post office, plastic waste from the homes of the officers and employees of the Postal department working in this complex will also be collected.
Officers and employees of the GPO were present on the occasion of the establishment of this new plastic bank. Various officers and employees of the post office including senior postmaster Tikambar Singh Gusain and assistant postmaster Rajendra Prasad Uniyal participated in the programme.
Gusain said in his address that the Plastic Bank Project started by SDC Foundation is a commendable effort for the protection of the environment. He added that all the officers and employees of the post office are committed to remain associated with the said project.
Dinesh Semwal of SDC Foundation said that they have established 135 plastic banks in Dehradun. Now the establishment of a plastic bank in the GPO is a new initiative. Apart from the plastic waste generated from various departments of the post office, plastic waste from the homes of officers and employees working in this complex will also be collected in this plastic bank.
Praveen Upreti of SDC Foundation said that after government and non-governmental institutions, SDC Foundation’s plastic bank scheme is now reaching homes too. He said that if plastic waste is collected from homes and sent for recycling, then on one hand plastic waste will not be scattered here and there, on the other hand it will become easier for the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun to collect the waste. He said that the SDC Foundation will continue to take this campaign forward.
