The police arrested an absconding accused who had duped a Dehradun resident of Rs 50 lakh under the pretext of investment in the share market. The officials said that a resident of the Bhaniyawala area Uttam Singh Panwar had filed a complaint at Doiwala police station on December 1, 2022 stating that a man named Mohit Aggarwal, a resident of Ghaziabad had duped him of Rs 50 lakh in the name of investing in the share market.
The police registered a case under sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code and started the investigation but the accused absconded after the victim filed the complaint against him. Due to the accused being on the run for a long time, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on him. The officials said that the police looked for him at several places and finally arrested him from Noida late on Saturday. The police came to know that he had at least four different addresses.
The police will soon present him in the court and will interrogate him about other frauds he might have committed in the State or other parts of the country, the officials said. The Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh also appealed to the public to not invest money through unknown people for quick profits. He asks people to approach authorities immediately if they get scammed to ensure fraudsters can be caught in time.
