The Dehradun police arrested a travel and tour operator Ankush from Haridwar for counterfeit registration of a group of 30 people from Maharashtra for the Char Dham pilgrimage. According to the police, Ankush worked for Konark Travels and made fake registration documents for 30 pilgrims including 16 men and 14 women to earn quick money. These pilgrims came to know about the fake registration during the checking of their registration at the checking centre in Rishikesh on Wednesday evening. They informed the police that they registered for two Char Dham temples online through a Haridwar-based travel agency named Konark Travels and paid a total of Rs 1.67 lakh. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police on Wednesday found over 60 people with fake registrations and registered a case against four tour and travel agencies as per the pilgrims’ statements. He constituted teams and sent them to Haridwar, Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad to investigate the cases and act against the travel agencies responsible. The police arrested Rishi Raj (35) from a travel agency in Delhi. He had allegedly carried out counterfeit registration of 11 pilgrims. The police on Thursday also arrested Ankush from Haridwar for fake registrations of 30 people. The police are checking registrations at checking centres established in Rishikesh to ensure no unregistered pilgrim travels to Char Dham temples. Strict action will be taken against all offenders irrespective of their location across the country, he added.
