Victim yet to appear before police: SSP
A man belonging to a minority community was allegedly beaten up and brought to Doiwala police station late on Sunday night by some locals over allegations that he was blackmailing and forcing a female medical student to adopt Islam. The police have started the investigation but the victim in the case is yet to appear before the police, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. He said, “The victim reportedly told about the situation she was facing to somebody else who took action in the matter and filed the complaint. She has not filed any complaint on her own in the police station so far. She is yet to appear before the police.
Considering the sensitivity of the situation, the circle officer of Doiwala has been directed to investigate the matter.” The SSP said that he understands that there is a rage among people against such cases but taking the law into their own hands is not the answer. He has appealed to the citizens to inform the police regarding such matters rather than taking action on their own. “Nobody is above the law. We appeal to the citizens to contact the police regarding such sensitive matters rather than acting against somebody over some allegations. The police will take action against culprits on the basis of evidence,” said Kunwar. He said that the matter is under investigation and the police will also take appropriate action against those involved in beating up the man.
