The Pauri district police have started the verification drive in view of the Char Dham Yatra slated to start later this month. The police took action against 11 landlords for not ensuring the verification of their tenants and imposed Rs 1.10 lakh fine on the landlords. The police also imposed Rs 13,000 fine on 41 vendors for violation of the rules on Sunday. The Pauri district police started the verification drive from first day of April and have so far taken action against 75 landlords, 159 labourers and 75 vendors in two days of the verification drive.
It is pertinent to mention that the Pauri senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey has given strict instructions to the all the station officers in the district to launch verification drive in their jurisdiction keeping in mind the Char Dham Yatra set to start later this month, the second G20 event to be held next month and the law and order. The police are conducting verification of the identities of students, labourers, tenants, domestic helps, vendors and people from other States working and living in the district while also keeping an eye out for suspicious persons.
The police conducted the verification of 60 tenants, 114 labourers and 54 vendors on Sunday. The police imposed fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on 11 landlords of for not conducting verification of the tenants under the section 83 of Uttarakhand Police Act. These landlords include nine in Srinagar, one in Lakshmanjhula and one under the women police station in Srinagar. The police also imposed a fine of Rs 12,750 from 41 vendors for violations of rules who include 10 each in Srinagar and Pauri, 11 in Kotdwar, five in Satpuli, three in Dhumakot and two in Kalagarh. The fine was collected under section 81 of the Police Act.
