Police reach Gupta’s residence to gather evidence in builder’s suicide case

The police on Thursday went to the residence of one of the Gupta brothers, Ajay Gupta in the Dalanwala area of Dehradun to gather evidence against him in the suicide case of the builder Satendra Singh Sahni. The investigating team questioned people working there and also took the digital video recorder (DVR) of all the CCTV cameras installed in the residence into police custody for investigation. The team also recorded the statements of the employees who work in Gupta’s house after conducting detailed interrogation.
The Gupta brothers duo Anil Kumar Gupta (51) and Ajay Kumar Gupta (58) is accused of abetting the suicide of the builder Sahni. Sahni jumped off the eighth floor of the Pacific Golf Estate building on May 24. He was taken to the Max Hospital but died during the treatment. His son Ranveer Singh Sahni presented a suicide note allegedly written by his father before his death. The deceased has allegedly mentioned the name of the Gupta brothers in his suicide note claiming they had been harassing, threatening and blackmailing him. He had also registered a complaint against both accused at the police station but he died amid the ongoing investigation which was being conducted by the superintendent of police of Dehradun.
Both accused are currently in Suddhowala jail under judicial custody till June 7. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police have added sections 385 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code to their charges after some new evidence came to light during the investigation. It is being said that Sahni had also allegedly mentioned the names of some other people besides the Gupta brothers in his suicide note. Responding to this, Singh said that the police cannot disclose the details of the suicide note as it is an important evidence and crucial part of the ongoing investigation. However, the police are interrogating every person involved in the case in any way, he added.
