Police shoot two accused of robbery and rape in encounter in Rudrapur

Two interstate criminals were injured in a police encounter in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar on Friday. The accused were identified as Akash and Nasir, residents of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh who have a long history of criminal activity, including robbery, vehicle theft and rape cases in many states, the Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manikant Mishra said.

He informed that the police received information about two men attempting to snatch a gold chain in the Rudrapur area. The police took action and initiated vehicle checks. When officers attempted to stop two men on a motorcycle, the suspects opened fire on the police personnel. The police responded with gunfire, which resulted in both criminals being shot in the legs, he said. Following their arrest, the suspects were found to have numerous criminal cases filed against them under various serious charges in Bareilly, Jaipur and several areas in Udham Singh Nagar. The mobike used in the crime has also been seized as evidence. Mishra said that this operation is a significant step in curbing the activities of chain-snatching gangs operating across state borders. The investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken accordingly, he said.
