The police will deploy Traffic Mitras to ensure proper parking outside shops on main roads. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh on Monday conducted an on site inspection of the city’s busy roads including Rajpur Road, East Canal Road, Chakrata Road and Saharanpur Road, among others. He took stock of the traffic arrangements on these routes and gave necessary directions to the officers concerned regarding the removal of temporary encroachments on these roads and action against unorganised parking arrangements.
The SSP directed all the police station in-charges to hold a meeting with the shopkeepers concerned regarding the improper parking arrangements outside their shops. He asked them to form a group of 20 to 25 shopkeepers in each area and appoint a person as Traffic Mitra for systematic parking of vehicles outside their shops. The said person will be given training and a uniform by the traffic police.
Singh said that Traffic Mitras will be appointed for well organised parking outside the shops in every area with the consent of the shopkeepers and they will ensure that the traffic system is not disrupted outside shops and no vehicle is unnecessarily parked outside. He also asked the police station in-charges to act against temporary encroachments on roadside areas to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. He said that there is a considerable improvement in the flow of traffic in the city due to removal of roadside encroachments for the Global Investors Summit and all the officials concerned must take necessary measures to ensure it is maintained in the future too.
