Speaker appoints minister Agarwal chairman of select committee
The Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri has nominated the Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal as the chairperson of the select committee on the Uttarakhand reservation in government service for the identified Andolankari of Uttarakhand movement and their dependents bill-2023. The committee will have six members.
The Vidhan Sabha secretary SMD Danish has issued a notification in this regard. The Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Manglaur MLA Mohammad Shahjad, Almora MLA Manoj Tiwari and Khatima MLA Bhuwan Kapdi will be the members of the select committee. In the recent monsoon session of the Assembly the State government had tabled the bill seeking to grant 10 per cent horizontal reservation to the Statehood activists and their dependents. However during the discussions it was decided to send the bill to the select committee of the Assembly. The committee will study the subject and submit its report to the Vidhan Sabha speaker in 15 days.
The decision to provide reservation to Statehood activists has been hanging in balance for many years. Earlier a bill on the subject was returned by the governor. The statehood activists are not getting the benefit of reservation in government jobs for the past 12 years. The statehood activists are demanding that they and their dependents should be provided reservation in the State government jobs.
