To increase their business during the upcoming festive season, the representatives of Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) appealed to the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to allow shopkeepers to open their shops on Sundays too.
The representatives of the association stated that most of the people shop on weekends for all the small and big festivals like Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali which brings more business to a shopkeeper than the usual weekdays. “The business has been dull for the last eight months in the city. All the big and small businesses are suffering due to the pandemic. So we met the CM on Tuesday and requested him to allow all the businesses to operate on Sundays too so that one can earn better at least in these few weeks. We asked him to allow us to operate on Sundays from October 18 to November 15 as all the festivals are falling during this time,” informed the president of DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson.
Moreover, he said that they have asked Rawat to close the marketplaces on a weekly basis on Wednesday rather than Sunday after November 15 as most of the people shop on weekends. Meanwhile, they also requested the CM to form a commission for the local businessmen so that they can take their issues there for assistance and solution. “The officials have been harassing us in matters related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a businessman has nowhere to go. A commission would at least assist us to tackle such matters efficiently,” added Masson.
Besides, they also appealed to the State Government to hold the process of demolition of encroachment in market areas till the festive season ends so that the business of shopkeepers would not suffer during this time.
